keeping the connection /// live performance
"Keeping the Connection" is an experiment in building arbitrary
and intuitive connections between the members of the audience through a live
performance event. Using the audience's expectation and attention as the
binding force, the performer acts as a conductor, connecting seemingly random
elements of time and space together. A sudden sound at the back of the room
is followed by someone's cough in the front, a group of people may start
smiling at the same time and affect the rest of the audience. All these moments,
their relationships and cause-effect connections are meticulously detected
and translated into movement by the performer, who is following intuition
rather than logical reasoning. During the following Q&A session, similar
principles are applied to the process of verbal interaction. The audience's
questions are arbitrarily related to each other and to the performer's answers.
This creates a plethora of meanings and interpretations, uniting the audience
even further in their univocal sense of confusion or psychic connection −
whatever one chooses to believe in.
