This is great! I just worked through an exploration of topic networks using thematic analysis and would love to hear your thoughts on it:

[...] admin Every community can be represented as a network. Once we start seeing communities as networks we can start using the tools from graph analysis and mathematics that can show us how communities come together, proliferate information and fall apart. This talk was given at TEDx hosted at betahaus, Berlin. The subject of the talk was “Synchronized Distribution of Information in Networks”. In other words: how do we take a certain message and make sure it spreads through a group or community simultaneously, in the way that everyone gets this message at the same time. Such synchronization is known to produce trends and innovations, shift opinions, and even reconfigure social structures. In this talk I pointed out four main elements that are necessary for information to spread through networks in waves: groups, shortcuts (or random connections), linchpins (people who connect different groups), and fiction. If “community is the joy of an encounter that survives its expected end”, then fiction is this basis for connectivity that “survives” in spite of other forces at play: social codes, habits, language, and logic. The video of this TEDx talk was made by Diego Agullo and the photograph is by Igor Schwarzmann. You can read more about that TEDx event on TED’s website and to learn more about this subject, please, read the article on “Communities and Togetherness” [...]

your examples are very informative.

nonetheless i long for more.
I mean that networks have no will, they are not closed entities, although they are this too, but they merge all the time with many other networks, above, under and beside them, like a flock of birds.
these movements and movebilities of networks interest me. to see them more as temporarily hubs, where you can ALSO land for sometime, as you land at many at the same time.
to analyse and map this movebility seems highly actual to me.

to see a network as a closed entity is beside the reality, networks are instruments and are instrumentalizing its 'members', there is a lot of transversalitity

it is interesting to compare this kind of network to an undirected, scale-free network of friends, but how does it compare to other cultural networks and to other business networks? aren't all networks where being connected provides a currency bound to be random in the way these dance networks are random? not that this refutes your comparisons of the random saturation of a network based on currency to intentional saturation of a network based on preference - but I think it should be addressed, dance should not be presented as if it were the only example of a network of this kind. the facebook examples are good, again, because they concretize. and when I read this article I want to see even more of that, to make it real. what are some examples of decisions made by dance institutions that have constituted positive or negative influences on the network? what are some instances where the methods that you list of avoiding a mass and maintaining innovative potential have been applied or could have been applied? how would you express a proposal for network-strengthening action? I think these things are necessary for these articles to reach their true effectivity. and definitely possible. so right on.

Would be quite interesting to compare your processed and "visualized" network with random text built up not with simple random rules but rather with algorithm similar to one, desribed in 'Random Text Exhibit Zipf's-Law-Like Word Frequency Distribution' by Wentian Li.
The point is as follows: Zipf's Law (i.e. power law distribution) is widely recognized as characteristic of text, which has some meaning. But. Seems it's not enough to have this "meaning" (ref. to W.Li paper).
Should be something else on top of "power-low-distribution" property, like discovered in your work: communities, etc?

Nice website Dmitry. I hope you are well. I'm in Beijing, soon moving to south of China. I have prolonged my stay here. It is something quite different from anything before - even Seoul and Korea was far away from my experience here. If Berlin carries great possibilities for artists - then I don't know what Beijing does - this is over the top for sure. Take care. XO.
